FAQ

Is amux free to use?

Yes, amux is completely free to use and MIT-licensed. There is a paid cloud offering (currently free!) to link all your devices securely and provide access from the app. Cloud access is completely optional and you can easily set up your own network.
Which AI agents does amux support?

amux currently supports Claude and Codex support is coming *very* soon.
Can I use my Claude subscription?

Yes! amux uses the vanilla Claude CLI under the hood, so you can use your Claude subscription.
How is this different to tmux?

amux is philosophically similar to and inspired from tmux. They serve different purposes and amux makes agents first class citizens rather than terminals. You can continue to use amux inside tmux. Another key difference is that amux is not a terminal emulator which means it will play nicely with more terminals. Unlike tmux, Windows support is on the way. Another key difference is how amux transparently multiplexes across machines too with an elegant routing protocol.
Is there going to be a desktop app?

Maybe. There are a lot of desktop apps at the moment in this space and I am more focused on allowing developers to easily build with amux. Anyone can currently create their own amux endpoint (like a dashboard for example) and I want to encourage that. I plan to make an SDK that will make it easy for anyone to make their own agentic development environment on top of amux. There's a lot of really cool things the protocol will enable that don't exist yet.
